The University conducts scientific and research projects on regional, national and international scales. European funds have supported, among others, the development of new study fields (biotechnology, design), teacher training, and programmes for school students. One of the nationwide projects was Diagnosis of Polish Six-Year-Olds (2007), whose results were used in the education reform.
Research and its commercialisation are carried out in cooperation with the socio-economic environment. UJK scientists participate in studies on the history of Święty Krzyż and in research on proton, hadron and nucleus collisions at CERN. The University operates a research station near the Raj Cave, a Pancreatic Disease Research Centre, and is establishing a Botanical Garden near the Karczówka Hill in Kielce.
